Finally – an Audio Player that got it all

Posted by martelo on March 29th, 2011

After a long way looking for a player that fits my needs the best. I’ve tried Winamp, AIMP2/3, iTunes,… and was looking for a player with functionality and an open concept similar to Amarok (Linux), but made for people and stable. My K.O. – criterias are:

  • Windows platform
  • Freeware and no Adverticements
  • Mediathek + Search
  • Support for Lossless FLAC
  • Subscribe Podcasts
  • Managing Tags for more than one File
  • Different Playlists

Nice to have:

  • transcoding/encoding WAV into MP3 and FLAC
  • Support for iPod nano
  • Support OGG
  • Shutdown
  • Support ASIO

And the winner is foobar2000 – There is EVERYTHING i need and more.  Even from my point of view as a software developer, its a fine piece of work. Its layout is completly configurable and an open component architecture, so third-party-plugins allow to write extensions -> great! The player and some of the plugins where updated lately, this activity is a good sign to have a player that will be developed further and extended for the needs of the future.

The authors choice: foobar2000 audio player

Edit (16.11.2011):

Just found a very promising Remote for the iPad http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRMYpmK5J68

Note: its not an App from the AppStore.Due to this foobar-forum entry (from Nov.2010) its a “simple foobar2000-config”.

I will continue recherching before spending money for it. But it looks very handy and worth a second look.
